“Star Wars” fans might be getting Christmas gifts a little early this week, as Disney is expected to announce new projects related to the franchise on Thursday.
What’s going on?
Disney will reportedly announce its upcoming slate on Dec. 10 at an investors meeting, which could include new projects form Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar, according to Deadline.
- Disney is expected to announce details for TV and movie theater releases, showing a connection to exhibitors and streaming services at the same time.
Will there be a Cara Dune spinoff?
There are multiple projects in the works for Lucasfilm and the “Star Wars” franchise, including the new “Star Wars: Kenobi” series and an untitled “Star Wars” film from Taika Waititi.
There have also been rumors of a spinoff show centered around Cara Dune, who is played by Gina Carano. There have been rumors for a few months now that the character Cara Dune would get her own spinoff, likely alongside Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff). Bo-Katan recently made a live-action appearance in “The Mandalorian.”
This would be a massive move for Disney. Dune, a former shock trooper for the Alliance, and Bo-Katan, a former leader of the Mandalorian creed, would be teaming up in what would be the first female-focused television series in the “Star Wars” universe.
Of course, Carano has been the victim of cancel culture Twitter recently, mostly due to her comments about voter fraud. She also posted a meme that mocked Democrats for using face masks, which led to #FireGinaCarano to trend on social media.
At the same time, Leslye Headland was tapped to write, executive produce and serve as showrunner for a new “Star Wars” TV series on Disney Plus. It is believed to be a female-centric series, too.
