Actor Giancarlo Esposito confirmed in a recent interview that he broke the darksaber props on the set of the second season o “The Mandalorian,” signaling that his character Moff Gideon will have a few sword fights.
What’s going on:
- Esposito told IMDB that he had a few sword fights during filming of the second season of “The Mandalorian.” He also said he broke the sword on a number of occasions.
- Esposito said: “I’m decent. I’m getting better. But you have to respect the power of it, the energy of it. It’s long, dude. I’ve bopped myself three times already. Pop in the head, I’m like ... what do I do? I start laughing. People look at me, they want me to be the expert right off the bat. But you know what? It takes practice. So we have long ones, we have short ones. Because sometimes they have to put it in. And guess what? I can say this? I can say it, I can say it. I’m going through it in my head, spoilers, blah blah blah. I can say it. I’ve broken three of those bad boys.”
What happened:
- Esposito’s character, Moff Gideon, was believed to have crashed and died at the end of the show’s first season before emerging from a ship by cutting a door with the darksaber.
- As I’ve written about before, the darksaber is an elegant weapon that has appeared in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels.” It was mostly owned by the Mandalorian race and even the villainous Darth Maul.
