It looks like we know the newest Marvel villain — “One Night in Miami” star Kingsley Ben-Adir.
What’s going on?
Deadline reports that Ben-Adir — who played Malcolm X in the critically acclaimed film “One Night in Miami” this year — will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the lead villain for the upcoming “Secret Invasion” Disney+ series.
- Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn will also star in the show, which will focus on the Skrull characters — the green guys from “Captain Marvel” — invading Earth.
What do we know about ‘Secret Invasion’ so far?
In September 2020, Variety reported Samuel Jackson would return as Nick Fury in a new Disney+ series. At the time, rumors suggested the series would be called “Agents of S.W.O.R.D.” and it would be a sequel series to “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
There was also speculation the series would follow the “Secret Invasion” storyline from the comic books. That storyline included Nick Fury coming out of hiding after he discovers there was a Skrull invasion on Earth, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
Disney+ later announced the “Secret Invasion” series, saying the show will be a “crossover comic event series (showcasing) a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.”
Nick Fury was last seen in a post-credits scene after “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” where he was on a spaceship with a Skrull.
The “WandaVision” series finale had a post-credit scene that showed Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and a Skrull agent, who tells her one of her late mother’s friends wants to talk to Monica. The agent then nods up to the stars. This was likely referring to Nick Fury, who was friends with Monica’s mother and Carol Danvers in “Captain Marvel.”
