KAMAS, Summit County — A cabin in Weber Canyon in Summit County was destroyed in a blaze Tuesday evening.

Summit County Fire Chief Scott Anderson said there was “extreme difficulty” getting to the location quickly due to snow and weather conditions up the canyon.

“It had too big of a headstart on us,” Anderson said. “Before we got here the roof had already started to cave in and the floors had already started to cave in.”

In a Facebook post, the South Summit Fire District thanked residents who ferried firefighters to the scene on their snowmobiles and ATVs when firetrucks were unable to reach it.

Officials deemed the cabin a total loss and no injuries were reported. Anderson said the the residents of the the cabin were not home at the time of the fire.
