Tamami Honma captured top awards in the senior division at the Music Teacher's National Association Convention in Little Rock, Ark.

According to Betty Beecher, a faculty member in the Utah State University music department, Honma took first place in the Yamaha Competition at the MTNA event.Francie Lin took second place in the Baldwin Competition at the same convention. Both pianists are students of USU's Gary Amano.

Both pianists were featured in a concert in Logan prior to the competitions.

Tamami is the 16-year-old daughter of Chiyo Honma Milovich and is a sophomore at Logan Senior High School. Her competition selections included works performed in Logan, including Ravel's "Ondine" from "Gaspard de la Nuit."

Lin is the 13-year-old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Clark A. Lin of Salt Lake City. She is a student at Churchill Junior High School and has studied with Amano since 1985.

She has placed first at the USU Piano Festival twice and in 1987 took first place in the Utah State Fair Piano Competition. She competed at the MTNA Baldwin Competition after winning first place honors at the MTNA southwest regional competition.
