Dr. Dixon Miles Woodbury, husband, father, grandfather, teacher and renowned scientist passed away in his sleep July 29, 1991.

Born August 6, 1921 to Angus Munn and Grace Atkin Woodbury in St. George, Utah. Married Donna Budge June 26, 1945 in Salt Lake LDSTemple. Graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. degree in Zoology from University of Utah in 1942. Also received M.S. degree from University of Utah in 1945 and Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley in 1948. Also completed M.D. from University of Utah. Served as a professor of Pharmacology in the University of Utah School of Medicine from 1961 until his death. Served as chairman of the Department of Pharmacology at Utah from 1972 until 1980. Since 1980 he had been Division Head of Neuropharmacology and Epileptology in the School of Medicine. Was and outstanding teacher and one of the worlds top researchers in his field. Received the Boerhaave Visiting Professor at the University of Leiden in The Netherlands in 1968 and in 1978 was a visiting scientist for the Epilepsy Section of the National Institute of Health in Maryland. Received many honors and awards including the John Jacob Abel Medal for the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics in 1957. Named the Lennox Lecturer of the American Epilepsy Society and the Bishop Lecturer at Washington University in St. Louis in 1966. Received the Distinguished Research Professor Award from the University of Utah in 1973. Published widely throughout his career, he was in demand as a consultant and received numerous research awards. Was a member of many University, professional and scientific committees. He was an active High Priest in the LDS Church serving in many capacities. At the time of his death he was the Stake Clerk in the Bountiful Val Verda Stake.Survivors include wife Donna, and children Bruce, North Salt Lake; Marcia, Twin Falls, Idaho; and Mark, North Salt Lake; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Max, Durham, North Carolina; and Walter, Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by his parents, sisters Edith and Marion and brother Lowell.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 1 at 12 noon in the Val Verda Stake Center, 2600 South 500 West, Bountiful. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and at the church on Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment in the Bountiful City Memorial Park. Contributions can be sent to the Dixon M. Woodbury Memorial Scholarship Fund, University of Utah.
