THE GOOD THAT MEN CAN DO,” by D. Todd Christofferson, Deseret Book, $12.99, 58 pages (nf)

Elder D. Todd Christofferson, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, points to the importance, virtues and challenges of fathers and fatherhood in “The Good that Men Can Do.”

Based on his talk titled “Fathers” at the April 2016 general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Christofferson points to examples of fatherhood in Heavenly Father and his own father.

“The role of father is of divine origin, beginning with a Father in Heaven and, in this mortal sphere, Father Adam,” Elder Christofferson writes.

Elder Christofferson, a father of five children, also recognizes the inherent challenges and sacrifices associated with fatherhood.

“Fatherhood requires sacrifice, but it is a source of incomparable satisfaction, even joy,” Elder Christofferson writes.

He also encourages children to honor their fathers and notes his own wishes to be better.

“Event so, despite our limitations, let us press on,” he writers. “Let us lay aside the exaggerated notions of individualism and autonomy in today’s culture and think first of the happiness and well-being of others.”

In “The Good that Men Can Do,” the words are illustrated with photos and help emphasize the words.

It is a timely reminder and encouragement from someone who is a father.

Elder Christofferson was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in April 2008 and was serving in the Presidency of the Seventy.
