SALT LAKE CITY — One thing’s for sure: This bird isn’t a stool pigeon.
According to The Guardian, a parrot in Brazil was taken into custody by local police on April 30 after they arrested the bird’s drug dealer owners.
Police claim the parrot had been trained to shout “Mum, the police!” when it saw the local authorities in Vila Irmã Dulce. The police apprehended the dealers during a raid on their home, despite the warning.
The police allegedly hoped the parrot would be able to provide details on its owners’ drug operation, but Brazilian reporters have said that the “papagaio do tráfico” — or drug trafficking parrot — refused to speak to the police, a claim confirmed by a veterinarian, Vice reports.
The parrot will spend three months learning to fly at a zoo before being released into the wild, according to The Guardian.
Twitter users have already started joking about the incident, and a parody Twitter account has been set up for the bird.
