Skyridge High quarterback Kaneal Sweetwyne has elected to end his commitment to BYU, he announced Monday via social media.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank BYU football and the entire staff for recruiting me and giving me a great opportunity to be a part of such a storied program,” Sweetwyne wrote. “After careful consideration and conversations with my family, I have decided to rescind my commitment to BYU. I am truly grateful for everything and wish BYU and the football program nothing but the best.”

As a junior in 2024, Sweetwyne passed for 2,716 yards with 19 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He added another 957 yards and 10 scores on the ground, helping lead his Falcons squad to the 6A state semifinal.

Sweetwyne, who originally committed to BYU this past February, is rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 21 overall recruit in Utah for the class of 2026.

With Sweetwyne’s decommitment, the Cougars still have one quarterback in their 2026 recruiting class: Five-star Ryder Lyons, though he won’t join the program until 2027. BYU will likely look to add another QB prior to the 2026 campaign, whether it be out of high school or the transfer portal.
